1st of June Stories & Jazz with Dimitris Karkoulias-p, Will Jasper-s, Hans Lass-db & Shjazz-v

Shjazz (Sharon Doelwijt)-v extends a warm invitation to Dimitris Karkoulias to join the stage after an engaging and challenging season. On June 1st, the final Stories & Jazz event of the season will feature an intriguing ensemble of musicians. Dimitris Karkoulias, recently honored with the Mingus Prize for Most Impressive Composition by the jury of the Conservatorium Talent Award on April 20th, will be among the performers. Karkoulias, a Jazz student at the Prins Claus Conservatorium, earned this prestigious award for his composition titled 'A Little Something'. The jury commended the piece for its harmonious structure and dynamic contrasts, showcasing Karkoulias's willingness to explore beyond his comfort zone.

Additionally, Will Jasper, a versatile saxophonist, flutist, arranger, and educator, will grace the stage. With a rich musical heritage, including notable saxophonist Sije 'Sleepy' Jasper as his father and pianist Lex Jasper as his cousin, music, especially jazz, runs deep in the Jasper family. After receiving classical training in flute in Leeuwarden, Will pursued saxophone studies at the Hilversums Conservatorium under the tutelage of saxophonist Ferdinand Povel, graduating in 1991. He has since embarked on a diverse musical journey, from engagements in various musical productions to extensive tours with renowned ensembles such as The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and The Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Furthermore, Hans Lass, a seasoned jazz bassist, brings his expertise to the stage. Having studied Contrabass-Jazz music at the Conservatorium Groningen and Den Haag, Hans has honed his craft under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Koos Wiltenburg, Jan Voogd, and Hein van de Geyn. Throughout his career, Hans has accompanied numerous workshops, masterclasses, and presentations alongside esteemed artists like James Taylor, Lee Konitz, and Mike Stern, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the art of jazz.

We look forward to an evening of captivating performances and musical excellence.
